A Note on Intellectual Property
Sorry I'm so spastic about setting up this blog. I was just thinking some of you may be worried about your writing being out on the web. Once we have our blog going we can make it so that this blog is only viewable by the people we choose. However, publishing the Google pages does put your intellectual property on the www. I guess we can put some kind of copyright note on those pages, but there's never any guarantee online. Suggestions?

Hm. I've never considered my property to be "intellectual".
Those are certainly worries. I don't have any suggestions myself. If posting counts as publishing, I'm afraid no one will be willing to throw their stuff out there.
I am curious. Is the intent to get critiques or just to share on a much more casual level? If the publishing aspect becomes a problem, we can simply use the blog to discuss works and issues, rather than actually posting stuff.
On a completely different subject, have you seen Jenny's or Ali's blogs? They're more about writing than actually posting completed works. I haven't jumped into blogging myself yet, but I do respond regularly to the people I know.
I'm not so worried about the intellectual property part. What I worry about about is the publishing part. Some markets require that you not have published the piece anywhere, and even blogging counts as publishing. However, since this is going to basically be a closed blog (did I read that right?), it should be okay.
Yeah, I was surprised to find out that some editors consider blog publication as publication proper. But that seems to be the case! I wonder if a "closed" blog solve this problem? I mean, if only blog members could access this blog, wouldn't our work be--uh--un-searchable from Google/Yahoo/etc.?
Shane, you may be right. This blog idea may only work as a place for sharing ideas. I didn't realize that posting on blogs counted as publishing.
